This past weekend at Axis was a blast. (Well, I had a blast anyway. I wore pink. And for those of you who know me well, that was a big deal. I'm kind of hoping the wearing pink did not contribute to the blast-having, but it is under evaluation. I actually wore something pink tonight . . . maybe something in my subconscious is changing. This is going to take some work.) At Axis we concluded the series Adventures in Missing the Point. I have thus far had a fantastic time being involved on the drama team. Being Jeanine in two services past and then last night getting to dance as a member of the congregation to the dramatic presentation of Lyle Lovett's song Church. Check out some of the images of the service posted online.
After the service, we did something the song bid us do - "it's time for dinner, now let's go eat" - were some of the lyrics sung in the chorus. So we did. An Axis style (aka, massive) potluck was held in the atrium following the service. And then there were serving opportunities. It was amazing to see people respond to the serving opportunities even though most of them had no idea that was part of the evening's plan.
I opted out of the serving because I was pooped-out from dancing all day. But instead I met two great new friends. John & Addi. They are a wonderful couple whom I look forward to getting to know better. We talked for about 45 minutes, though I wasn't really keeping track of the time. We ended our time together by praying for one another. What a blessing!
And that my friends, is the point of church. Allowing God to use your gifts, talents, and time. Meeting with people - old friends and new ones to grow in community. Praying about life matters that seem to matter little but matter more than you will ever know. The point of church is to bring glory to the King of Kings and to build His Kingdom by being open to whatever purpose He has for you in that Kingdom. I for one, had a blast this last weekend learning not to miss the point of church.
Back in college, in 2004 when blogging was hardly even a thing yet, I was here. Blogging before blogging meant anything to anyone. You can look in the archives for my past writings, but it was much more like a journal in the past. When we started fundraising, I messed around with the idea of launching something new for this new phase of our journey but actually hated that idea. I am a sum of all of my life and so much of it is here already. So I'm keeping it here. At least for now.
My main focus these days is blogging about our newest journey into the bizarre and wonderful world of gestational surrogacy. Posts dated 2013 and forward will trend heavily toward that journey. I don't promise everything I write will be about though. There might be other things that sneak in occasionally.
Please come along our journey with us. As the saying goes, "The more, the merrier!"
