The first time I met with my small group in March there was an announcement about a possible missions trip to Costa Rica. A few weeks later I found myself facing the truth I initially wouldn’t accept – I was going on that very trip. In roughly 18 hours the six of us who comprise the CR team are departing for the airport and our nine-day Costa Rican adventure.
The journey of preparing has been one that I have greatly enjoyed. I wouldn’t trade the hours spent in team meetings, or those spent in solitary preparation, for anything. They were invaluable, unforgettable, and cherished moments. But the trip itself is sure to bring more moments and memories. I’m looking forward to building community and friendships with my team. Serving with them in this context is such a wonderful opportunity and I’m so excited to see what God has in store for us.
Of course, I’m also anticipating greatly what will unfold with our yet-to-have-met Costa Rican acquaintances. There will undoubtedly be good food provided by our host church families. (We are starting “strongest stomach contest.”) And we have been told to expect for a lot of hugging. (At least by the women who are preparing the food for us.) The possibilities for building relationships and connecting with the Costa Ricans are virtually wide open and that is motivating factor for me. The focus of our trip will be very relational as we will be working closely with our Costa Rican brothers and sisters from La Cominudad. I am eager to begin that component.
It has taken me about an hour to complete this rather short composition (with some work thrown in the middle) and so I am pleased to announce we have 17 hours and counting . .
Back in college, in 2004 when blogging was hardly even a thing yet, I was here. Blogging before blogging meant anything to anyone. You can look in the archives for my past writings, but it was much more like a journal in the past. When we started fundraising, I messed around with the idea of launching something new for this new phase of our journey but actually hated that idea. I am a sum of all of my life and so much of it is here already. So I'm keeping it here. At least for now.
My main focus these days is blogging about our newest journey into the bizarre and wonderful world of gestational surrogacy. Posts dated 2013 and forward will trend heavily toward that journey. I don't promise everything I write will be about though. There might be other things that sneak in occasionally.
Please come along our journey with us. As the saying goes, "The more, the merrier!"
