Back in college, in 2004 when blogging was hardly even a thing yet, I was here. Blogging before blogging meant anything to anyone. You can look in the archives for my past writings, but it was much more like a journal in the past. When we started fundraising, I messed around with the idea of launching something new for this new phase of our journey but actually hated that idea. I am a sum of all of my life and so much of it is here already. So I'm keeping it here. At least for now.

My main focus these days is blogging about our newest journey into the bizarre and wonderful world of gestational surrogacy. Posts dated 2013 and forward will trend heavily toward that journey. I don't promise everything I write will be about though. There might be other things that sneak in occasionally.

Please come along our journey with us. As the saying goes, "The more, the merrier!"

God's Needs

At small group tonight we were asked a question. I think it's a good one.

First, the question. Does God need you to attend church?

Now what I've fashioned for an answer.

God is the creator of all that is. He does not need you to warm a seat in a building on any given Sunday. However, the Creator of all that is desires an intimate relationship with you. When you want to get to know someone, can you expect to do so on a truly intimate level without being in his or her home? Then I beg you to consider how you can enter into an intimate relationship with God without being in his house. Define or redefine God's house in any manner of ways. People have been trying to make sense of that for centuries. Nothing is right in a one single church building for everyone. But God desires to meet with you - in his home. Often. Regularly. So my answer is yes. I would argue, in fact, that there is an aspect of the character of God that longs for his children to be at home with him. It's called Fatherhood.

Cool insights. Another interesting answer to this is on the subject of worship. The idea is that even though God is infinite and all powerful the one thing He can't do is worship Himself. We always think about the things we want God for but in terms of worship, He's the one who really wants us. What better way to say I care than stopping in for a weekly visit and praising Him altogether!
