When I did this house sitting gig last year Stu and Mary warned me about the psycho bird people. But I never expected what I encounter this evening. This woman was truly unusual. We are all unique and God creates beauty in different ways. For her, beauty comes in a very obsessive fashion. She's quite "over-the-top". . . and that's putting it mildly. People are certainly entitled to love their pets. But I'm not sure this is the normal, healthy demonstration of love for pets.
When she dropped off Sunny she wouldn't even let me touch him. But she showed me the food, the six different types of treats, the special filtered water, the "toys" (water bottles, caps, pencils, and an old sun visor) that this small bird has to play with and chew on. There was also the playground. These are not uncommon. The Kuhn's have them. The birds love them. The playground was normal. Then from the box of stuff the woman pulled a most unexpected item. It had been cut apart but was still most identifiably an old bra. You know, the unmentionable item of clothing that women use to hold in their chests. She proceeded to tell me that he liked to also chew on "this" and then tied it to the inside of his cage. Yes, I am telling you that there is a bra tied to the inside of this birds cage.
I wanted to laugh. Or cry. Or just run away. I wasn't really sure. The bird people are weird. And now I know what Stu and Mary mean when they reference the odd people whose birds they watch. I have to go water the birds now and put them to bed. "Sunny must be tucked in just so, you know."
Back in college, in 2004 when blogging was hardly even a thing yet, I was here. Blogging before blogging meant anything to anyone. You can look in the archives for my past writings, but it was much more like a journal in the past. When we started fundraising, I messed around with the idea of launching something new for this new phase of our journey but actually hated that idea. I am a sum of all of my life and so much of it is here already. So I'm keeping it here. At least for now.
My main focus these days is blogging about our newest journey into the bizarre and wonderful world of gestational surrogacy. Posts dated 2013 and forward will trend heavily toward that journey. I don't promise everything I write will be about though. There might be other things that sneak in occasionally.
Please come along our journey with us. As the saying goes, "The more, the merrier!"
