Back in college, in 2004 when blogging was hardly even a thing yet, I was here. Blogging before blogging meant anything to anyone. You can look in the archives for my past writings, but it was much more like a journal in the past. When we started fundraising, I messed around with the idea of launching something new for this new phase of our journey but actually hated that idea. I am a sum of all of my life and so much of it is here already. So I'm keeping it here. At least for now.

My main focus these days is blogging about our newest journey into the bizarre and wonderful world of gestational surrogacy. Posts dated 2013 and forward will trend heavily toward that journey. I don't promise everything I write will be about though. There might be other things that sneak in occasionally.

Please come along our journey with us. As the saying goes, "The more, the merrier!"

Tips

They call me many things at work. Among the names I hear all day long as these: "Sunshine" "Baby" "Gorgeous" "Doll" "Cutie-pie" "Sweetie." The list is longer and it's not something I mind. In fact, it's kind of nice. It's done wonders for my ego . . . and confidence. And everyone has their own thing they say. Many people love to compliment my dimples. I get that all the time. This job is helping me learn to just say, "Thank you" and let it go. Even though I really hate having to do that.

But today something new started. See, I have had this empty jar on my desk since I started there in August. I never really knew what it was for, just an empty jar with a pink ribbon around it. (I really don't like the pink ribbon...at all.) Someone mentioned once that a former receptionist kept candy in the jar. I haven't the money to keep that jar stocked with candy so I decided it could be an empty jar with an ugly pink ribbon around it.

Monday we had a new group of trainees begin. Yesterday one of them was very upset that my "candy jar" (for he perceived it automatically for what it should have been) was not full. I explained to him that it would never have candy in it due to the fact that I do not have the money to keep that kind of thing going. So he brought in candy the next day and when it was gone today the collectors started giving me giving me tips. Actual monetary tips. Saying things like, "for your smile," "to help pay that dental bill," and "for you Sunshine."

I'm not sure if they expect a smile or candy but if the keep putting money in the jar they might get both. My boss has given me permission to use the money however I see fit.
