Back in college, in 2004 when blogging was hardly even a thing yet, I was here. Blogging before blogging meant anything to anyone. You can look in the archives for my past writings, but it was much more like a journal in the past. When we started fundraising, I messed around with the idea of launching something new for this new phase of our journey but actually hated that idea. I am a sum of all of my life and so much of it is here already. So I'm keeping it here. At least for now.

My main focus these days is blogging about our newest journey into the bizarre and wonderful world of gestational surrogacy. Posts dated 2013 and forward will trend heavily toward that journey. I don't promise everything I write will be about though. There might be other things that sneak in occasionally.

Please come along our journey with us. As the saying goes, "The more, the merrier!"

Something Different

For the past couple weeks my friend Jessie has been in town. She's been staying with a few different friends, myself being among them, during her break from school. Last night was her last night here. We celebrated her departure in a unique way with another friend of hers at his place out in the boonies. Elburn to be precise.

It was raining - drizzling at any rate - and I thought certainly the dampness would be enough to foil the plan. The plan? A bonfire. A bonfire in January? I too thought it odd at first mention. Who does that? But as we drove onto his property, it was clear to see that even the rain-spits did not dissuade the firemaster (as Jessie's friend prefers to be called) from creating his master piece.

And a master piece it turned out to be! Despite the rain's threat the fire roared for a couple hours. Had we the time, it could have likely gone all night. We watched bottles melt. And burned the pizza box, plates, napkins . . . and pretty much anything else we found lying around the firepit. The only thing missing were the s'mores. Who has a bonfire without s'mores? Really. That was a disappointment! We could also have used a guitar. But that is personal preference and "prejudice" from many years spent at Christian camps.

A bonfire in January on a chilly rainy night. Not elements I would have tossed together for a night of classic entertainment. However, though I've never done it before, should the opportunity ever arise to do so again, I think I would.
